The yarns of time unravelled through our journey in life. Life - a tiny dot moving along these lines . What the next step has in store for you is difficult to predict. Yet our own actions influence the life patterns that surround us.
I remember debating against the topic - " Man is the maker of his own destiny" in College and winning the debate. Why did I chose to speak against ? Because I believed in it completely? - Oh no! I chose to speak against the topic since I assumed , it would be more difficult and hence I would have to stretch my imagination to put forward my points. I won not completely on the merits of my own theories...I took insipration from the book " One" by Richard Bach. (b.t.w. a must read if you haven't already read it)
I believe I also won the debate since the judges were parents who had lost a young son. ( The trophy of the debate was named after their son) I cringed while I heard some of the arguments made by other debaters "for the topic" , totally oblivious to the impact that some of their statements were having on the elderly couple sitting and listening to them.....so much for empathy!
Why am I talking about this now......I still have my debate speech preserved with me and while I was going through it today the question shot out of the papers dancing in the air with a big question mark- " Is man the maker of his own destiny?"
More on this in the next post.
